Digitization of the priceless photographic collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow MOCAK for e-culture and e-education
Digitization processes will be one of the strongest development factors in the coming years, thus museums must also effectively use the Internet to disseminate knowledge about culture, adapting their offer to the requirements of the modern recipient. Difficulties related to, among others, no financial resources, it impossible to carry out digitization works on a continuous basis and cause that the digitization process is selective and is conditioned by current needs in this respect (e.g. exhibition, educational projects, etc.).
The subject of the project is the digitization of a priceless collection of photographic materials presenting some closed time in the history of photography, their development in a specialized program and online dissemination of this previously unpublished collection. The digitization process covered objects with high documentary, historical and iconographic value, which, due to the material made, are extremely unstable and easily undergo chemical changes or damage. They are distinguished by the fragility and instability of the material which make them most vulnerable to changes in the state of preservation when shared.
The project will cover selected thematic collections of: Mikołaj Smoczyński, Marian Eile, Władysław Hasior, Mieczysław Porębski and Artists from the MOCAK Collection, which are often the only document of preservation and the only trace of a work of art.
